Uganda's Derreck Kayongo is among the 10 people from across the world nominated for this year's CNN Heroes Awards.
Kayongo, based in Atlanta, USA has been recognised for his Global Soap Project which collects used hotel soap from the United States, then cleaning and reprocessing it for shipment to impoverished nations such as Haiti, Uganda, Kenya and Swaziland.
According to CNN, Kayongo, 41, thought of the idea in the early 1990s, when he first arrived at a hotel in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. He noticed that his bathroom was replenished with new soap bars every day, even though they were only slightly used.
