Representing Uganda abroad:

As a child, she dreamt of a career in medicine, but ended up as an arts and media guru on the continent. Leslie Nabunya Kasumba initially wanted to be a doctor because her father, who she looked up to, was a practising medical doctor.

Born to Sam Kasumba and Mera Nsibirwa 31 years ago in Kampala, her family moved to Kenya, then Zimbabwe and finally settled in Bophuthatswana, Mafikeng province in South Africa.

A shift to the arts and media
Kasumba, who attained all her education in South Africa, picked interest in creative arts and media during her last years at high school.

This marked her long journey into the world of continental media. She enrolled at the University of Witwatersrand, where she did a degree in dramatic arts. Then she joined the radio industry as a presenter.

Kasumba worked with leading South African radio station Y FM and later its sister magazine Y Magazine as a writer and later an editor.
